Chirpy

a buddy voice that fades as you get steady and sure

Chirpy Sings With You, Then Steps Back

Chirpy was a cheerful little bird who loved to sing with you — never at you, never over you. When you started a song unsure, Chirpy sang right alongside, warm and clear, so you were never singing alone.

But Chirpy had a gentle magic: as you got steadier — surer of the tune, more settled in your voice — Chirpy’s voice softened, fading back little by little, making more and more room for yours. Not because you were “correct,” but because you were sure. Steady, not perfect, was all Chirpy ever listened for.

Some days you needed Chirpy to sing loud and close the whole way through, and that was fine. Some days you steadied fast and Chirpy faded to a whisper, letting you carry the tune yourself. Either way was good. No one counted your wobbles; Chirpy only ever noticed your growing confidence, and cheered it on by quietly stepping back.

By the last verse, the little singer was carrying the tune on their own, with just a soft feather of Chirpy’s voice behind them. “You’ve got it,” Chirpy chirped. A good singing buddy sings with you until you’re steady — then lets you shine. Steady is the whole goal, and steady is enough.

Reading together with a grown-up? A card for the grown-up

For the grown-up: ask one question, then wait. When they answer, add one word to what they said. Tap the button when they have said something — that is one turn each, a circle. Nothing is recorded or kept.

Let them finish it

Say “Chirpy sings WITH you, then softens as you get sure — …” and stop. Let them finish it.

Then say the whole line together: “Chirpy sings WITH you, then softens as you get sure — steady, not perfect, is the goal!”.

Now wait. Count slowly to five in your head. Their answer is worth the quiet.
