Tuner Gets Every String Just Right
Tuner was a round, friendly pufferfish who lived by the beach, and Tuner loved one calm little job: helping a ukulele sound sweet by getting every string just right — not too low, not too high, but perfectly in tune.
When a string is out of tune, even a lovely chord comes out a little sour. So before you play, you pluck each string, and Tuner listens: “A touch low — tighten it a whisker.” Pluck. “A touch high — loosen it a whisker.” Pluck. “There — just right!” One string at a time, until the whole ukulele hums in agreement.
Tuner was never a pushy fish. Some tuners rush you or nudge you toward buying things — but Tuner just quietly helped you hear when a string was true, and cheered when it landed. Tuning isn’t a test; it’s a calm, kind get-ready routine, like tying your laces before a run.
Once all four strings were just right, everything the little player strummed sounded sweet and clear. Tuner puffed a happy little bubble. A tuned instrument is a joy to play. Pluck each string, listen for “just right,” and Tuner will always tell you when you’re there.
Reading together with a grown-up? A card for the grown-up
For the grown-up: ask one question, then wait. When they answer, add one word to what they said. Tap the button when they have said something — that is one turn each, a circle. Nothing is recorded or kept.
Let them finish it
Say “Pluck a string — Tuner tells you when it's …” and stop. Let them finish it.
Now wait. Count slowly to five in your head. Their answer is worth the quiet.
