Doublo Counts It Twice
Doublo was Dodo’s cousin, a friendly bird whose eyes sometimes landed on the same thing twice. When that happened, Doublo counted it again — and ended up with too many.
Doublo counted three buttons: “One, two, three, four!” But there were only three buttons! Did you spot it? Doublo had counted one shiny button twice. “Doublo,” you said kindly, “you counted that one twice.” Doublo blinked. “Oh no, I did!”
You showed Doublo a trick: slide each button away after you count it, so it can’t sneak back. “One” — slide. “Two” — slide. “Three” — slide. Now every button was counted once and set aside. No button could be counted twice.
Doublo tried the slide-away trick and counted again. “One, two, three.” Just three, exactly right! “The trick works!” Doublo cheered. “Once I move it, I can’t count it twice.” And you — you had counted so carefully to catch the double that the trick was yours now too.
Doublo hugged you with a soft wing. “You caught my double and taught me the trick,” Doublo said. Touch it once, move it away, count it once. A simple, gentle way — and now two friends knew it, because one of you taught the other.
