Newsy the Newt Shares One Thing

Down by the little stream on Featherpost Lane lives Newsy, a bright-spotted newt with a wriggly tail and eyes that sparkle whenever something exciting happens. Newsy LOVES to share — and every letter has a spot made just for sharing, right in the middle. It’s called the news, and Newsy is the master of it.

A young writer sat stuck. “I said hello… now what do I write?” she sighed. Newsy popped up from the stream. “Now you tell your news!” he beamed. “The middle of a letter is where you share what’s happening in your world. What happened to you lately?” The writer thought. “Um… lots of things.” “Then pick just ONE,” said Newsy gently. “One real thing you’re happy about. A whole letter of everything is a jumble — but one good story is a gift.”

So she thought and picked: she had planted a sunflower seed and it finally sprouted. “Perfect!” Newsy wriggled with joy. “Tell it like you’d tell a friend across the table. My sunflower seed sprouted today! It has two tiny green leaves.” He clapped his little webbed hands. “See? Now Grandma knows something new about your world. That’s news — and it’s the heart of the letter.”

Say it with Newsy, out loud: “Tell one thing that happened new — a bit of news, from me to you.”

The writer wrote her sunflower news, and it felt easy once she picked just one thing. “I have SO much more news too!” she laughed. “Save some for the next letter,” Newsy winked. “A little news each time keeps the letters coming.”

That is Newsy’s move, and it fills the middle of your letter. Don’t try to say everything — pick ONE real thing that happened to you, and tell it like a little story. One piece of news, shared warmly, is what your reader is waiting for.
