Coby Waits His Turn

Coby is a little fish, and Coby is very good at one thing: waiting for his turn.

At the swapping rock, all the tide-pool friends line up to swap their shells. Pebble goes first. Then Sandy. Then Marina. And Coby waits, wiggling happily in the line, because he knows his turn is coming soon.

“One friend at a time,” says Coby. “That’s how a swap works best. If everybody grabs at once, it’s all a muddle! But one at a time - Pebble swaps, then Sandy swaps, then it’s MY turn - and everybody gets a lovely swap.”

So Coby waits. He watches Pebble swap a pink shell. He watches Sandy swap for the yellow one. He waits, and he waits, calm and cheery… and then -

“Coby! It’s YOUR turn!”

And Coby zips right up to the rock, so happy, and swaps his little spotty shell for a shiny one. “My turn came!” he cheers. “I waited, and my turn came!”

That is what Coby shows us. Swap with ONE friend at a time. Wait for your turn - and soon, your turn will come. And then it’s YOUR moment to swap.

A grown-up can play too! Line up some toys and take turns. “Your turn… now MY turn… now your turn!” Feel how nice it is when everybody takes a turn, one at a time, and nobody is left out.
