Roundy at the Shape Stall
Roundy was a cheerful little beetle who ran the Shape Stall. Oranges, boxes, and wedges of cheese were piled up, and Roundy loved to sort them by shape — the way each one felt when you traced it with your finger.
Roundy picked up a plump orange. “A circle,” she said, tracing it round and round. “See? It’s round all the way — no corners, no flat sides, just smooth around and around.” Her little foot went in a happy loop. A circle is round all the way.
Next, a wooden box. “A square,” said Roundy, tapping each side. “One, two, three, four — four flat sides, and a corner at each turn.” Four flat sides, four corners. Very different from the smooth-round orange in her other claw.
Then a wedge of cheese. “A triangle!” Roundy cheered. “Count the corners — one, two, three. Three corners, three sides.” A shy snail tried too, tracing the cheese slow. “Three!” it whispered. “Just right,” said Roundy, never rushing the little tracing finger.
At the end, Roundy and the snail matched every piece to its shape family — circles with circles, squares with squares, triangles with triangles. Round-all-the-way, four-flat-sides, three-corners. The snail’s fingers had learned to feel which shape was which — and that felt wonderful.
