Loopa was a frog who had lived her whole life cycle out loud — egg, tadpole, young frog, grown frog — and she loved showing other creatures how their own cycles turned. "Every living thing," she'd say, "goes around."

The loop was the lesson, and Loopa was living it.

Loopa showed a lab-mate her life story in pictures. "First an egg. Then a tadpole with a tail. Then legs grow in. Then — me!" She pointed to each stage in order. "Predict what comes after a grown frog." The lab-mate guessed another egg — and got it exactly right.

"Yes! I lay eggs, and the whole cycle begins again in my tadpoles."

Then Loopa lined up a butterfly's cycle and a bean plant's cycle beside her own. They looked totally different — egg-caterpillar-chrysalis-butterfly, seed-sprout-plant-flower. "Predict: what do ALL of these share?"

"They all grow up and make new ones," a friend realized. "Birth, growing, making young, and an end — the same big pattern."

A lab-mate frowned at a seed. "But a seed isn't alive — it's like a pebble." Loopa nodded warmly. "That's a really common thought. Predict: give it water and warmth — will a pebble sprout? Will a seed?" They watched the seed sprout. "A seed is a living beginning," Loopa said. "It starts the cycle."

A wrong idea, tested, became a true one.

05 Closing
Loopa beat 5 of 5

At dusk Loopa sat by her pond, watching new tadpoles wiggle — the next turn of her own loop.

"Your cycle just keeps going," said the lab-mate.

Loopa's throat puffed with a happy, low note. Life cycles had once seemed like a list to memorize. But seeing that a frog, a butterfly, and a bean plant all shared one deep pattern — birth, growth, new life, and an end that feeds a beginning — made her feel part of something bigger than herself. And that felt warm and true.

Reading together with a grown-up? A card for the grown-up

For the grown-up: ask one question, then wait. When they answer, add one word to what they said. Tap the button when they have said something — that is one turn each, a circle. Nothing is recorded or kept.

Let them finish it

Say “Loopa turns life in a circle — born, …” and stop. Let them finish it.

Then say the whole line together: “Loopa turns life in a circle — born, grow, reproduce, and begin again.”.

Now wait. Count slowly to five in your head. Their answer is worth the quiet.

Circles together: 0
