Block Stops the Light

In the Shadow Nook lives Block, a solid, sturdy shadow-friend who is very good at one thing: stopping the light! When light can’t get past, a dark shadow appears.

Watch! Hold up a solid toy in front of the light. The light hits it and STOPS — it can’t shine through. So behind the toy is a shadow, dark and clear. That’s Block’s job!

Can YOU be like Block? Hold your hand up to the light. Your solid hand blocks it — and look, a dark hand-shadow on the wall! Wiggle your fingers and watch them wiggle in the dark.

Say it with a grown-up: “Something solid blocks the light — that makes a shadow dark as night.”

Solid things block the light and make dark shadows. That’s Block’s secret! Try blocking the light with different solid toys and watch the dark shadows appear. So fun!
