Glimmer
SEE-THROUGH MAKES A FAINT SHADOW
Glimmer Lets Light Sneak Through
In the Shadow Nook shimmers Glimmer, a sparkly, see-through shadow-friend you can almost look right through! Glimmer has a gentle secret: see-through things make soft, faint shadows.
Watch! Hold up something see-through — like a bit of clear plastic or a thin scarf. The light doesn’t stop all the way. Some of it sneaks through! So the shadow is soft and pale, not dark. That’s Glimmer’s magic!
Can YOU find a Glimmer thing? Hold something see-through up to the light. Is its shadow dark like Block’s… or soft and faint? Soft and faint — because the light sneaks through!
Say it with a grown-up: “See-through things let light pass through — their shadow’s faint, a softer hue.”
See-through things let light sneak through and make faint shadows. That’s Glimmer’s secret! Try see-through things and solid things — dark shadows and faint shadows. Can you tell which is which?
Reading together with a grown-up? A card for the grown-up
For the grown-up: ask one question, then wait. When they answer, add one word to what they said. Tap the button when they have said something — that is one turn each, a circle. Nothing is recorded or kept.
Let them finish it
Say “See-through things let light pass through — their …” and stop. Let them finish it.
Now wait. Count slowly to five in your head. Their answer is worth the quiet.

The ShadowTots ensemble
Glimmer is one of the friends in ShadowTots. Each friend shows you one idea by how they act; meet them all and you have the whole subject.
