Mission 11 of 16

Sensors & Transducers

📋 What it is

A transducer converts one form of energy to another — the deeper idea behind every sensor and output.

🗣️ Coach says

A transducer is any device that turns one kind of energy into another. A microphone turns sound into electricity; a speaker turns electricity back into sound; a solar cell turns light into electricity. Sensors and outputs are all transducers — energy converters that let electronics touch the world.

🧠 Memory hook

Transducer = energy converter. Mic: sound→electricity · speaker: electricity→sound · solar: light→electricity.

😂 Giggle

Why did the diode go to traffic school?
Because it only knew how to go in one direction!

😲 Whoa!

A speaker and a microphone are almost the same device run backwards — in a pinch, you really can use a speaker as a rough microphone.

✅ Quick check: What does a microphone (a transducer) convert, and into what?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Talk into earbuds’ speaker held to your ear — some can faintly pick up sound, acting as a mic.

🤸 Brain break: Convert-it: mime sound coming in, then turn your hand to "electricity" going out.
