Civic Action & Participation

📋 What it is

Citizens can shape their community by taking part — volunteering, speaking up, organising, voting.

🗣️ Coach says

Government isn't only for grown-ups in offices — regular people shape it by ACTING. Volunteering, speaking at a meeting, starting a petition, organising neighbours, voting: all are civic action. Change usually comes from ordinary people participating, not from waiting for someone else to fix things.

🧠 Memory hook

Civic action = ordinary people taking part (volunteer, speak up, organise, vote). Change starts here.

😂 Giggle

What did the President say to the veto pen?
"You're my favorite way to say no and still look presidential!"

😲 Whoa!

Many big community improvements — a new park, a safer crossing, a changed rule — started with just a few ordinary people organising and speaking up.

✅ Quick check: Give one way a young person could take civic action in their community.
