Thinking Traps
📋 What it is
Traps include believing something because it’s repeated, and trusting a claim just because it matches what we already think.
🗣️ Coach says
Even careful thinkers fall for two big traps: something FEELS true because we’ve heard it a lot (repetition), and we believe claims that match our existing beliefs while doubting ones that don’t (confirmation bias). The fix is to check the ones you WANT to be true hardest.
🧠 Memory hook
Repeated ≠ true. And check hardest the claims you WANT to believe.
😂 Giggle
Why was the evidence card so popular?
It had five-star credibility!
😲 Whoa!
Confirmation bias is so strong that people rate the SAME study as “good” or “flawed” depending on whether it agrees with them — which is why honest thinkers deliberately test their own side.
⚖️ The claim on trial:
“I’ve heard this claim a hundred times AND it matches what I already believe, so it must be true.”
You're the judge. Deliver a verdict, pick the evidence that really matters, then reveal.
✗ Weak / flawed — Weak / flawed — this is the illusory-truth + confirmation-bias trap: repetition and “it agrees with me” aren’t evidence; check the ones you WANT to believe hardest.
Repeated ≠ true, and “it matches what I think” is a reason to check harder, not to relax.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Find a claim you AGREE with and fact-check it as hard as one you disagree with. Notice the pull.
