Mission 2 of 16

Paint Material Science

📋 What it is

Paint is pigment (colour), binder (glue) and a carrier (water or oil); knowing what’s in it explains how it behaves.

🗣️ Coach says

Paint is a recipe: coloured powder (pigment), a glue that holds it (binder), and something to thin it (the carrier). Understand the recipe and you know why acrylics dry fast, why some paints crack, and how to fix problems.

🧠 Memory hook

Paint = pigment + binder + carrier. The recipe explains the behaviour.

😂 Giggle

What did the red paint say to the green paint?
"You complete me!"

😲 Whoa!

Some pigments are made from ground-up minerals and have been used by artists for thousands of years — real rocks in your paint.

✅ Quick check: What are the main ingredients in most paint, and what does each roughly do?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Look at a paint (or a photo) and guess whether it’s thick or thin, and why.
