Suit Contracts vs Notrump

A suit contract has a trump suit; a notrump contract has none, so the highest card of the led suit always wins.

Two kinds of contract. In a SUIT contract, your long trump suit can ruff (trump) enemy winners. In NOTRUMP, there is no trump at all — pure "highest card wins" — so long suits and stopping the enemy's suit matter most. You pick which based on your hands' shape.
