Establishing Long Suits
📋 What it is
A long suit becomes a source of extra tricks once the opponents' cards in it are exhausted.
🗣️ Coach says
A five-card suit is a hidden goldmine. Once you've played the suit enough times that the enemy runs OUT of it, your remaining small cards become winners — nobody can beat them. Setting up a long suit is one of the surest ways to extra tricks.
🧠 Memory hook
Play a long suit until the enemy is empty — then your little cards all win.
😂 Giggle
Why did counting points before bidding matter?
Because your total high-card points tell you how high to bid!
😲 Whoa!
A single long suit can hand you three or four extra tricks late in the hand — "the long suit is the poor player's finesse" because it doesn't even need luck.
✅ Quick check: Why does a long suit produce extra tricks late in the deal?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Once opponents run out of that suit, your remaining low cards in it can no longer be beaten, so each wins a trick.
Exhausting the enemy's cards leaves your small cards as guaranteed winners.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
