Bidding a slam needs enough combined points AND control of every suit, judged carefully before you commit.

A slam (12+ tricks) is a huge bonus but a big risk — bid one you can't make and you lose a lot. Good slam judgment checks two things: do the two hands have enough combined strength (usually ~33+ points for a small slam), and do you control every suit so no quick loser sinks you?
