Reading A Checkmate Net

A checkmate net is a web of attacking pieces that leaves the King no legal escape, block, or capture.

To finish a game you weave a "net": every square the King could flee to is covered, every checker is defended so it can't be captured, and no piece can block. Reading the net means checking all three escapes are shut BEFORE you give the final check.
