Natural Resources & Energy
📋 What it is
Resources are renewable (sun, wind, water) or nonrenewable (coal, oil, gas that run out).
🗣️ Coach says
Earth gives us resources, in two kinds. Renewable ones (sunlight, wind, flowing water) refill naturally and won’t run out. Nonrenewable ones (coal, oil, gas) took millions of years to form and are being used far faster than they replace — so they’ll eventually run out.
🧠 Memory hook
Renewable = refills (sun/wind/water). Nonrenewable = runs out (coal/oil/gas).
😂 Giggle
Why was the decomposer the most underappreciated member of the ecosystem?
It did all the dirty work and nobody thanked it!
😲 Whoa!
Enough sunlight hits Earth in ONE hour to power all human activity for a whole YEAR — the renewable resource is enormous.
✅ Quick check: Is coal a renewable or nonrenewable resource, and why?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Nonrenewable — it took millions of years to form and we use it far faster than it can replace, so it will run out.
Nonrenewable resources form far slower than we consume them.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
List the energy you used today. Which came from renewable sources, which from nonrenewable?
