Deductive Reasoning

📋 What it is

Deductive reasoning combines known facts to reach a conclusion that MUST be true.

🗣️ Coach says

Deduction chains sure facts: “the key is in the blue box OR the red box; it’s not in the blue box; so it’s in the red box.” Each step follows for certain. Escape rooms reward players who chain clues instead of guessing.

🧠 Memory hook

Chain sure facts one step at a time — each step MUST follow.

😂 Giggle

Why did the combination lock go to school?
To learn its numbers!

😲 Whoa!

Detectives, doctors, and escape-room champions all use the same move: line up what you know for certain, then take the one conclusion that must follow.

✅ Quick check: “The code is even. It’s not 2, 4, or 8. It’s under 10.” What is it?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🪄 Trick question: Is “the code is probably 7” a deduction?

Careful — think it through, then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Write three sure clues that together force ONE answer (like a 1-digit code). Test them on a friend.

🤸 Brain break: Chain-link: link fingers one at a time for each certain fact, then point to the forced answer.
