Getting Started
📋 What it is
Task initiation is beginning a task — the hardest part is often the FIRST tiny action, not the work itself.
🗣️ Coach says
Starting is the mountain. The fix is to shrink the first step until it is almost silly-small: "open the book", "write one sentence". Motivation usually arrives AFTER you start, not before — so a 2-minute start often breaks the freeze. Waiting to "feel ready" is the trap; a tiny start is the escape.
🧠 Memory hook
Motivation comes AFTER starting. Shrink the first step to 2 minutes and just begin.
😂 Giggle
My planner broke up with me.
It said I never followed through on our plans.
😲 Whoa!
The "2-minute rule" works because starting anything for just 2 minutes usually makes finishing feel easy.
✅ Quick check: You can’t make yourself start homework. What is a proven first move?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Start with a tiny 2-minute piece (open the page, write one line) — starting creates the motivation.
Task initiation is easiest when the first step is shrunk to something tiny.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Pick the task you’re avoiding and do JUST 2 minutes of it. Notice whether continuing got easier.
