Putting It All Together

📋 What it is

Executive function is the TEAM of skills — memory, brakes, flexibility, planning, starting, time, focus — working together.

🗣️ Coach says

Real tasks need the whole crew at once: plan the steps (planning), start small (initiation), hold the goal (working memory), ignore the ping (inhibition), switch when stuck (flexibility), and pace yourself (time + attention). Strong "executive function" is not one super-skill — it is these teammates cooperating on one job.

🧠 Memory hook

EF is a TEAM: plan → start small → hold the goal → resist the ping → switch if stuck → pace it.

😂 Giggle

My to-do list is getting so long, it needs its own to-do list.

😲 Whoa!

Scientists call these skills the brain’s "air traffic control" — managing many planes (tasks) without crashes.

✅ Quick check: Why is "executive function" better thought of as a team than a single skill?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Pick a real task and name which EF teammate each part needs (start, plan, focus…). Notice the team.

🤸 Brain break: Team breath: name one EF skill on each slow breath out — memory, brake, switch, plan, start.
