Mission 2 of 16

Heredity Basics

📋 What it is

Heredity is how traits pass from parents to offspring through genes.

🗣️ Coach says

Why do you resemble your relatives? Heredity. You inherit genes — half from each parent — and those genes carry traits like eye colour or height. Some traits are “dominant” (show up easily), others “recessive” (hide unless you get two copies). Traits travel down the family tree.

🧠 Memory hook

Heredity = traits passed by genes, half from each parent.

😂 Giggle

What did the DNA say to the RNA?
"Stop copying me!"

😲 Whoa!

You share about 50% of your genes with each parent — and roughly 99.9% of your DNA with EVERY other human on Earth.

✅ Quick check: Where do your inherited traits come from?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

List three traits you share with a relative. Each one rode in on a gene from a parent.

🤸 Brain break: Pass-it: mime handing something from one hand (parent) to the other (child).
