Improv Fundamentals & "Yes, And…"
📋 What it is
Improv is unscripted performance built on "Yes, and…": accept your partner's offer, then add to it.
🗣️ Coach says
Improv has NO script — you make it up together, live. The golden rule is "Yes, and…": ACCEPT whatever your partner gives you (yes) and ADD something new (and). Saying "no" blocks the scene and it dies; accepting-and-building keeps it alive.
🧠 Memory hook
"Yes, and…" — accept the offer, then add. Blocking kills the scene.
😂 Giggle
Why did the improv actor bring a ladder on stage?
To take the scene to the next level!
😲 Whoa!
The "Yes, and…" habit is taught in business meetings too — accepting and building on ideas works far beyond the stage.
✅ Quick check: What does the improv rule "Yes, and…" mean?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Accept ("yes") whatever your partner offers, then add ("and") something new to build the scene together.
Accepting-and-adding keeps the unscripted scene alive; blocking stops it dead.
