Mission 8 of 16

Designing an Inclusive Future

📋 What it is

New technology (like AI) can either include or exclude — designing it fairly means including disabled people in the process.

🗣️ Coach says

The future is being built now, and it can go either way. AI and new tech can open huge access (real-time captions, smart assistive tools) — but only if they’re designed WITH disabled people, not just for them. "Nothing about us without us" applies to tech too: the best inclusive future includes everyone in the designing.

🧠 Memory hook

New tech can include OR exclude. Build it WITH disabled people — "nothing about us without us" for tech too.

😂 Giggle

The hearing aid and the glasses met at a party. "We have so much in common," they agreed.
"We both help people experience the world more fully."

😲 Whoa!

AI that wasn’t tested with diverse people has failed real users — which is exactly why inclusive design matters from the start.

✅ Quick check: How do we make sure new technology is inclusive?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Imagine one gadget that would help someone with a different ability. Who would you ask to help design it?
