Mission 6 of 16

Light & Sound Waves

📋 What it is

Waves carry energy without carrying matter; light travels far faster than sound.

🗣️ Coach says

A wave moves ENERGY, not stuff — a ripple crosses a pond but the water stays put. Sound waves need a material (air, water) and move fairly slowly; light waves are much faster and can even cross empty space, which is how sunlight reaches Earth.

🧠 Memory hook

Waves move energy, not matter. Light beats sound in a race, every time.

😂 Giggle

What did the spring say after the experiment?
"I'm under so much pressure I might just bounce!"

😲 Whoa!

You see fireworks explode before you hear the bang — light reaches you almost instantly while sound lags behind.

✅ Quick check: Why do you see lightning before hearing thunder?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Watch a distant clap (a field, gym). You see it before you hear it — light beats sound.

🤸 Brain break: Wave-it: ripple one arm — “energy moves, the arm stays put.”
