A set is a collection of things; a Venn diagram uses overlapping circles to show what sets share and don’t.

A set is just a group (the set of even numbers, the set of your friends). Venn diagrams draw sets as circles — the overlap is what they have in common. “AND” lives in the overlap; “OR” is everything in either circle.
