Mission 12 of 16

People & Migration

📋 What it is

Migration is people moving to live somewhere new, pushed by hardship and pulled by opportunity — jobs, safety, climate.

🗣️ Coach says

People move for reasons that come in pairs: something PUSHES them from home (war, drought, no work) and something PULLS them somewhere new (jobs, safety, family). Every migration map is a story of push and pull.

🧠 Memory hook

Migration = PUSH from home + PULL to a new place. Always look for both.

😂 Giggle

What did the scale bar say to the ruler?
"I measure up in my own way."

😲 Whoa!

Humans have been migrating for at least 60,000 years — our ancestors walked out of Africa and eventually reached every continent.

✅ Quick check: Give one “push” factor and one “pull” factor that make people migrate.

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Think of a family move you know about and name its push (why leave) and pull (why there).

🤸 Brain break: Push and pull: push both palms away (“leave!”), then pull your hands in (“come here!”).
