Mission 3 of 16

Time & Temperature

📋 What it is

Time uses base-60 (60 s = 1 min, 60 min = 1 hr); temperature is measured in degrees.

🗣️ Coach says

Time is weird — it counts in 60s, not 10s. 60 seconds make a minute, 60 minutes an hour. Temperature counts in degrees. Both are measurements you read off a scale, like a clock or thermometer.

🧠 Memory hook

Time is base-60: 60 s = 1 min, 60 min = 1 hr. (Not base-10 like length!)

😂 Giggle

Why don't scientists trust atoms to measure anything?
Because they make up everything!

😲 Whoa!

We count time in 60s because the ancient Babylonians used a base-60 number system over 4,000 years ago.

✅ Quick check: How many minutes are in 2 hours?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🪄 Trick question: Is 90 minutes the same as 1.9 hours?

Careful — think it through, then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Time yourself doing 20 jumping jacks in seconds, then convert: is it under or over a minute?

🤸 Brain break: Clock-arms: sweep one arm like a slow hour hand, the other fast like the seconds.
