Mission 4 of 16

Perimeter & Area

📋 What it is

Perimeter is the distance around; area is the space inside, in square units.

🗣️ Coach says

Perimeter is the walk AROUND the edge (add the sides). Area is the space INSIDE (cover it in unit squares; length × width for a rectangle). They answer different questions — fence vs floor.

🧠 Memory hook

Perimeter = around (the fence). Area = inside (the floor, in little squares).

😂 Giggle

The metric system is the ruler of the world — it really measures up!

😲 Whoa!

Farmers care about both: perimeter decides how much fencing to buy, area decides how many crops fit.

✅ Quick check: A rectangle is 5 m by 3 m. What is its area?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Walk the perimeter of a rug (count steps), then imagine covering it in floor tiles (area).

🤸 Brain break: Around-vs-inside: trace a square's edge (perimeter), then "fill it" with a spiral (area).
