Mission 1 of 8

Microbiology Basics

📋 What it is

Microbes are living things too small to see — bacteria, fungi, and viruses — and most are harmless or helpful.

🗣️ Coach says

Microbes are life too tiny for the naked eye: bacteria, tiny fungi like yeast, and viruses. It’s easy to think "microbe = germ", but the vast majority are harmless or downright helpful. Only a small fraction cause disease. You need a microscope to meet them — and there are trillions around and inside you.

🧠 Memory hook

Microbe = tiny life (bacteria, fungi, viruses). MOST are harmless or helpful — only a few are germs.

😂 Giggle

Why do antibodies fit their targets so well?
Because they lock onto a specific antigen like a key fits one lock!

😲 Whoa!

There are more microbes living on and in your body than there are human cells — you are, by cell count, more "microbe" than "you".

✅ Quick check: Are most microbes harmful germs?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Look at your hand and imagine trillions of harmless microbes living there right now — a normal, healthy zoo.

🤸 Brain break: Tiny-peek: pinch your fingers almost shut and "peer" through the gap — spotting a microbe.
