Mobility & Restriction
📋 What it is
Keeping your pieces free to move while cramping the enemy's can win by leaving them no legal move.
🗣️ Coach says
You can win WITHOUT capturing — by leaving the opponent with no legal move at all. So mobility matters: keep your pieces on points with open neighbours, and try to block the enemy's pieces so they get stuck. A cramped opponent eventually can't move and loses.
🧠 Memory hook
Stay mobile; box the enemy in. No legal move for them = you win.
😂 Giggle
Why is down-to-three not the end?
Because that's exactly when you get to FLY anywhere you like!
😲 Whoa!
Winning by blocking (leaving the opponent no move) is just as valid as capturing them down to two — good players aim for whichever comes first.
✅ Quick check: Name a second way to win Nine Men's Morris besides reducing the enemy to two pieces.
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Leave the opponent with no legal move — if all their pieces are blocked and can't slide anywhere, they lose.
Being unable to move is a loss, so restriction is a winning plan.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Try to trap two enemy pieces against the edge so neither can slide. That's restriction.
