Mission 16 of 16

Decode the Unknown

📋 What it is

The whole point: meet a word you have NEVER seen, break it into parts, and infer its meaning. This is the transfer skill morphology gives you for life.

🗣️ Coach says

This is the final boss and the real reward. "Chronophage"? chrono (time) + phage (eater) = a time-eater. You just defined a word nobody taught you. That is reading power that never runs out.

🧠 Memory hook

Unknown word? Split it → decode each part → assemble the meaning. Every time.

😂 Giggle

What do you call a monster made from "chrono" plus "phage"?
A time-eater — it devours the hours!

😲 Whoa!

Standardized tests are FULL of made-up-looking science words on purpose — students who know morphemes decode them; everyone else guesses.

✅ Quick check: Decode "hydrophobia" from its parts: hydro = water, -phobia = fear.

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Decode "geochronology" and "photophobia" from their morphemes before you look them up.

⭐ Do the round to earn your star →
🤸 Brain break: Boss pose: strike a hero pose and "decode" the longest word you can invent from your morphemes.
