Social Systems
📋 What it is
Groups of people — families, schools, cities — are systems, with rules, roles and feedback of their own.
🗣️ Coach says
People form systems too. A school, a friend group, a city — each has PARTS (people), CONNECTIONS (relationships, rules), and whole-group behaviour (culture, trends). Social systems have feedback (a trend spreads then fades) and emergence (a crowd’s mood). Seeing groups as systems helps you understand — and improve — them.
🧠 Memory hook
Groups of people = social systems: people + relationships/rules → culture, trends, group behaviour.
😂 Giggle
Why was the interconnected system so popular at school?
It was well-connected!
😲 Whoa!
A single yawn can ripple through a whole room — yawning is "contagious" in social systems, spreading person to person like a tiny feedback wave.
✅ Quick check: How is a school or friend group a kind of system?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
People (parts) connect through relationships and rules, producing whole-group behaviour like culture and trends.
Social groups behave as systems of connected people.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
Notice a trend spreading in your school — that’s reinforcing feedback in a social system.
