Mission 2 of 12

Place Value: Decimals

📋 What it is

Places continue past the decimal point: tenths, hundredths, thousandths — each 10× smaller.

🗣️ Coach says

The pattern doesn't stop at the decimal point — it keeps shrinking by tens. Right of the point comes tenths, then hundredths. So 0.7 is seven tenths, and 0.07 is seven hundredths — ten times smaller.

🧠 Memory hook

Right of the point: tenths, hundredths, thousandths. Each place is 10× SMALLER than the last.

😂 Giggle

What did zero say to eight?
"Nice belt!"

😲 Whoa!

Money is decimals you use daily: $1.25 is 1 whole dollar, 2 dimes (tenths) and 5 cents (hundredths).

✅ Quick check: Which is bigger, 0.7 or 0.07?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🪄 Trick question: Is 0.5 the same as 0.50?

Careful — think it through, then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Line up 0.5, 0.50, and 0.500. They're all equal — trailing zeros after the point don't change value.

🤸 Brain break: Shrink-hands: hold hands wide for "ones", closer for "tenths", almost touching for "hundredths".
