Mission 5 of 12

Division with Remainders

📋 What it is

Division shares equally; the remainder is what's left over that can't be shared.

🗣️ Coach says

Division asks "how many equal groups, and what's left over?" 13 ÷ 4 = 3 remainder 1: three groups of four, with one left. The remainder is always smaller than the number you're dividing by.

🧠 Memory hook

Remainder = the leftovers. It's ALWAYS smaller than the divisor (or you could make another group).

😂 Giggle

Why are numbers never lonely?
Because they can always count on each other!

😲 Whoa!

Clocks use remainders: 27 hours from now is 27 ÷ 24 = 1 remainder 3 → 3 o'clock the next day.

✅ Quick check: What is 13 ÷ 4?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Share 13 counters into 4 cups. Each cup gets 3, and 1 is left over — that's the remainder.

🤸 Brain break: Deal-and-leftover: "deal" imaginary cards into 4 piles, then hold up the leftovers.
