What your child practices

PatchPals builds early spatial-composition sense for ages 3–5 — that a bigger square is made of smaller parts that fit together exactly (partition + area conservation), and that some parts come in matching pairs. It is the wordless, hands-on first meeting with the pattern children later name (a+b)² = a² + 2ab + b². (We build the spatial sense itself; we don't make later-math claims.)

• Cover the Square — tap a patch, then tap where it goes; the quilt lights up only when every part is covered exactly (composition + area conservation).
• Twin Match — find the two ribbon patches that are the same, just turned (congruence + "there are always two").

Best played together, once a week

Tila and Parra read everything aloud, buttons are big, and there is no timer and no "wrong" — a patch in the wrong spot gently bounces back with a warm "try another spot". A weekly quilt with a grown-up beside your child is the whole idea — calm, cozy, about ten minutes.
