Visible light is a thin slice of a huge spectrum — radio, microwave, infrared, UV, X-ray, gamma.

The light we see is just one narrow band of a giant family of electromagnetic waves. Radio, microwaves, infrared (heat), visible, ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays are all the same kind of wave — they differ only in wavelength and energy. Our eyes catch only the visible sliver.
