Mission 3 of 16

Misconceptions & Reasoning

📋 What it is

Test "obvious" light ideas against evidence — many everyday beliefs about colour and vision are wrong.

🗣️ Coach says

Light is full of feels-right-but-wrong ideas: your eyes don’t shoot out beams to see, white isn’t "no colour" (it’s all colours mixed), and objects don’t "have" colour on their own — they reflect certain colours of light. Reasoning means testing the claim, not trusting the hunch.

🧠 Memory hook

Feels-true ≠ is-true. Eyes receive light; they don’t emit it.

😂 Giggle

Why was the prism so popular?
It always showed its true colors!

😲 Whoa!

A red apple isn’t "red" in the dark — it has no colour of its own; it simply reflects red light and absorbs the rest, so with no light there’s no colour.

✅ Quick check: Do your eyes send out rays to "feel" objects, like a flashlight?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

In a dark room, note you see nothing — proof your eyes need incoming light, not the other way around.

🤸 Brain break: Doubt-pause: raise a finger, "wait — is that true?"
