Round 11 — Word Origins & Vocabulary

📋 What it is

This round quizzes what words mean and where they come from.

🗣️ Coach says

Vocabulary rounds reward the host who knows a word’s ROOT — you can explain WHY, not just what.

🧠 Memory hook

“Salary” comes from the Latin for salt — Roman soldiers were once paid in it.

😂 Giggle

Why was the vocabulary round so wealthy?
It had a huge word bank!

😲 Whoa!

The longest word in a major dictionary is 45 letters long — a lung disease name.

🎤 The prefix “tri-” means what number, as in triangle or tricycle?

You're the HOST — decide your answer and hold the card, then flip & announce. (Knowing it FIRST is what makes you the host, not a lucky guess.)

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Find a word with a surprising origin and host it with the backstory.

🤸 Brain break: Root-tug: mime pulling a “root” up from the ground on the answer.
