Mission 10 of 16

Nutrition Science & Food Groups

📋 What it is

Food gives us nutrients — carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals — each with a job in the body.

🗣️ Coach says

Food isn’t just fuel — it’s a supply of NUTRIENTS your body needs. Carbohydrates give quick energy, proteins build and repair, fats store energy and protect, and vitamins and minerals keep systems running. A balanced variety of foods provides them all — no single food does everything.

🧠 Memory hook

Nutrients: carbs (energy) · protein (build/repair) · fats (store/protect) · vitamins+minerals (keep running). Balance!

😂 Giggle

What did the butter say to the bread?
"I'm on a roll!"

😲 Whoa!

Your body can’t make vitamin C on its own — unlike most animals — which is why humans must eat it, and why sailors long ago got sick on long voyages without fresh fruit.

✅ Quick check: What is the main job of protein in your diet?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Look at a meal and spot each food group — carbs, protein, veg — a balanced plate.
