Not Because

📋 What it is

Two things rising together (correlation) does NOT mean one caused the other (causation). A hidden third thing, or pure coincidence, can link them.

🗣️ Coach says

Ice-cream sales and sunburns rise together — does ice cream cause sunburn? No: hot sunny days cause both. On a channel, "I posted a lot AND grew" might both be caused by a holiday, not by your posting. Correlation is a clue, not a verdict.

🧠 Memory hook

Rises-together ≠ caused-it. Look for a hidden third cause before you claim "because".

😂 Giggle

What's a statistician's favorite dessert?
Pie charts!

😲 Whoa!

A real chart shows the number of films Nicolas Cage appears in tracks pool drownings almost perfectly — a pure coincidence, not a cause.

✅ Quick check: Videos with longer titles get more views on your channel. Can you conclude "long titles cause views"?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Name a real "correlation" (e.g. two things that rise together) and a possible hidden third cause.
