Thumbnail Test

📋 What it is

A controlled comparison keeps every condition the same except the one you are testing — the "control" is your fair baseline. Without a control, you are guessing.

🗣️ Coach says

You changed your thumbnail and views went up. Was it the thumbnail — or was it a holiday weekend when everyone was online? A controlled comparison needs a baseline that rules out the other explanations. No control, no conclusion.

🧠 Memory hook

Control = a fair baseline. Compare against it, or the "cause" could be anything.

😂 Giggle

What did the retention curve say after a boring video?
"I'm dropping off — see you never!"

😲 Whoa!

Medicine uses a placebo group for exactly this reason — without a control, people "improve" just from being watched (the Hawthorne effect).

✅ Quick check: Views jumped the week you changed your thumbnail AND a holiday happened. What do you need to be sure the thumbnail worked?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Plan a fair test of a posting change — name the control you would compare against.

🤸 Brain break: Baseline pose: stand at a "start line", then step forward only for the ONE thing you changed.
