Mission 13 of 16

Fast Lies

📋 What it is

Misinformation is false information that spreads — often faster than the truth, because a shocking claim is more shareable than a boring correction. Verifying before sharing is the brake.

🗣️ Coach says

A fake claim can circle the world before a fact-check laces its shoes. The fix is a habit: pause, check the source, look for the original, see who else reports it. Being first is worthless if you are wrong.

🧠 Memory hook

Lies travel fast; verify BEFORE you share. Pause → source → original → who else says it.

😂 Giggle

Why did the sample apologize?
It wasn't big enough to represent everyone!

😲 Whoa!

A large study of Twitter found false news spread significantly farther and faster than true news — novelty and shock, not accuracy, drove the sharing.

✅ Quick check: You see a shocking claim with no source. What is the responsible move before sharing?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
