Stars are born in gas clouds, shine by fusion, then die — small ones fade, huge ones explode.

Stars have lives. A collapsing gas cloud ignites into a star that shines by fusing hydrogen for millions to billions of years. Then mass decides the ending: small stars swell, shed layers and fade to white dwarfs; giant stars explode as supernovae, leaving neutron stars or black holes.
