📋 What it is

Telescopes gather faint light; space telescopes and different wavelengths reveal what our eyes can’t.

A telescope’s main job is collecting light — the bigger the mirror, the fainter the object it can see. Putting telescopes in space escapes our blurring atmosphere, and observing in infrared, radio or X-ray reveals objects invisible to human eyes, like clouds where stars are being born.
