Mission 3 of 16

Dyeing & Printing

📋 What it is

Colour and pattern get onto fabric through dyeing (soaking in colour) and printing (stamping patterns on the surface).

🗣️ Coach says

How does a plain white cloth become a colourful patterned fabric? Two ways: dyeing soaks colour all the way through, and printing stamps a pattern on the surface. Each gives a different look — and opens up endless design possibilities.

🧠 Memory hook

Dye = colour soaks through · print = pattern on the surface.

😲 Whoa!

Some traditional dyeing methods, like tie-dye and batik, are thousands of years old and are still used by designers today.
