Mission 2 of 16

Maps & Coordinates

📋 What it is

Every spot on Earth has an address: latitude (north–south) and longitude (east–west) lines cross to pin it exactly.

🗣️ Coach says

A map is a code, and latitude/longitude is the key. Latitude lines run sideways and tell you how far from the equator; longitude lines run up-and-down. Where they cross is an exact address — no place name needed.

🧠 Memory hook

Lat = flat (sideways). Long = tall lines. They cross to pin the spot.

😂 Giggle

Why did the map go to therapy?
Because it had too many issues with its boundaries!

😲 Whoa!

The equator (0° latitude) is an imaginary line, but if you stood on it the Sun would be almost straight overhead at noon all year.

✅ Quick check: What do latitude and longitude together give you that a place name alone doesn’t?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Find your town’s latitude and longitude online and write them down.

🤸 Brain break: Grid cross: sweep one arm sideways (latitude), one arm up (longitude), then cross them on your spot.
