Knots & Rope Skills

📋 What it is

The right knot for the job — securing, joining, or making a loop — is a practical outdoor skill.

🗣️ Coach says

Rope is only as useful as your knots. Different knots do different jobs: some make a fixed loop, some join two ropes, some cinch tight but untie easily. Learning a few reliable knots (with practice) lets you pitch a tarp, secure gear, or build a shelter. A knot that slips is worse than no knot.

🧠 Memory hook

Right knot for the job: loop · join · cinch. A few reliable knots do most outdoor tasks. A slipping knot fails.

😂 Giggle

Why did the camping trip go so well?
Because it was in-tents!

😲 Whoa!

Sailors and climbers trust their lives to knots — a single well-tied figure-eight knot can hold thousands of times a climber’s weight.

✅ Quick check: Why does the CHOICE of knot matter, not just tying one tightly?

Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.

🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)

Practise one simple knot (like a bowline) until you can tie it smoothly — a real outdoor skill.

🤸 Brain break: Loop-tie: mime looping and tugging a knot tight, then a quick release.
