Campfire Skills & Fire Safety
📋 What it is
Fire gives warmth, light and cooking — but demands respect: build it safely and always put it fully out.
🗣️ Coach says
A campfire needs three things: fuel (tinder→kindling→logs), air, and a spark. But fire safety comes FIRST — build only where allowed, clear a ring of bare ground, keep water nearby, never leave it unattended, and drown it completely before leaving. Always with an adult; a stray ember can start a wildfire.
🧠 Memory hook
Fire = fuel + air + spark. SAFETY FIRST: cleared ring, water nearby, never unattended, drown it out. With an adult.
😂 Giggle
What's a mountain's favorite type of candy?
Snow caps!
😲 Whoa!
A campfire can look "out" but still be hot enough underneath to reignite hours later — which is why the rule is to drown, stir, and drown again until it’s cold to the touch.
✅ Quick check: What must you always do to a campfire before leaving it?
Say your answer out loud first — then reveal.
Put it completely out — drown it with water, stir, and drown again until it’s cold to the touch.
Hidden embers can reignite into wildfires.
🧪 Try it! (2 minutes)
With an adult, notice how a fire is built up from tiny tinder to bigger wood — small to large.
