Camp Cooking & Nutrition

📋 What it is

Outdoor activity burns lots of energy; simple, high-energy foods keep you going and warm.

🗣️ Coach says

Hiking and camping burn far more energy than sitting still, so eating well matters. Good trail food is lightweight, high-energy and doesn’t spoil — nuts, dried fruit, grains. Warm food also helps keep you warm. Plan enough for the trip plus a little extra, and pack out all your rubbish.

🧠 Memory hook

Outdoor activity burns big energy → eat lightweight, high-energy food. Warm food warms you. Pack out rubbish.

😲 Whoa!

A hard day of hiking can burn several times the energy of a normal day — which is why trail snacks are packed with dense, high-energy foods like nuts and dried fruit.
